Day 8: Published on November 30, 2016
When I looked up the words “blind spot” there were 3 definitions present. The first two definitions gave me an anatomical one where it explained it is the point of entry of the optic nerve on the retina, insensitive to light. The second definition states that it is an area where a person’s view is obstructed.
And, it further explains it is an area in which a person lacks understanding or impartiality. Now, the third definition deals with telecommunications. It says that a blind spot is a point within the normal range of a transmitter where there is unusually weak reception.
What I noticed was common in all three definitions is that a blind spot is the inability to see or comprehend through sight or signal what something is or means.
What I then began to focus on was how when the Lord speaks to me at times. The times He provides a Rhema word personally for me and I’m unable to make out what He is saying. There are other times when the Lord may be warning me about something and I heard with my ears what He said, loud and clear, but I didn’t take it as serious as I should have, in my heart.
Sometimes, God’s Rhema can come in the form of a dream. Maybe, it can come through word of knowledge or insight from someone else’s mouth, but for whatever reasons, I am unable to comprehend because there are some spiritual blockers involved (2 Corinthians 4:4). These are the blind spots!
Instead of being insensitive to light, our spiritual sight should be sensitive toward God’s light in what He reveals to us (John 14:16-17).
To provide a better understanding on this I want to use an analogy. Jesus was good with providing parables to his disciples to assist them in their sight due to spiritual blockers being present (Matthew 13:11-13).
One day, I was driving down the highway and traffic was congested in the city where I live. I was running late to my destination as I decided to go over the next two lanes in order to take the next exit. I managed to get over in the first lane. There were no problems there.
So, I attempted to proceed into the second lane. Using my turning signal and looking through my side-view mirror for any on-coming traffic, I decided to give it a go! All of a sudden, as I continued to get over, there was a car that I hadn’t noticed through any of my mirrors.
It almost ran smack dab into the side of my car! I am screaming and beeping my horn like a crazy woman! The funny thing (not then, but now when I talk about it) is that the lady driving the other car was so startled that she didn’t even beep back at me. How humble of her with me being in my pride that morning!
But, then it dawned on me. This incident wasn’t her fault at all, but mine. Because I failed to check my blind spot which is something not easily detected through a side-view mirror, I almost caused an accident just-that-quick!
So, how does this relate to the point earlier? I’m glad you asked!
Sometimes, there are blind spots we have when the Lord may speak to us about certain areas in our lives. Our blind spots can come in the form of pride, jealousy, deceit, etc. Blind spots can be any sin or situation which prevents you from comprehending or seeing what’s real.
Just as my physical blind spot that morning on my way to work kept me from seeing the reality that a car was beside me, I had some spiritual blind spots that wanted to keep me from seeing the truth in my life as well.
Trust me. Blind spots are really hard to detect. But, it takes the power of God to anoint our eyes to see the way we should as He removes obstructions. Blind spots can hinder and/or destroy marital bonds, relationships, jobs, and all of the essential things that mean the most to us. This is why it is beneficial to pray to the Lord to remove them!
Are there any blind spots in your life that may be hindering you on today?
Prayer: Lord, I thank you for being who you are in my life. I ask that you would reveal any blind spots that I have that may be hindering progress. I pray for humbleness of mind as you began to show me these areas. And, I ask that you would remove any and all obstructions keeping my spiritual eyes from seeing correctly. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen!
Quiet time meditation: Wait for the Lord to minister to you personally on what He may want to say to you. Be sure to pay attention to any areas that may pop up in your spirit (even silly things such as: how quick you may be to get angry with things or a friend or family member who has been bugging you with their problems.) This process could take anywhere from 10-30 minutes or longer. But, try not to rush this because you could be missing out on a great breakthrough. Within this quiet time the Lord wants to restore you in any broken areas and he wants to replenish your spirit for what has been used up.
Understanding what He means: This is a time to jot down some of those things the Lord has ministered to you while in meditation. Sometimes, the Lord may wait to speak to you throughout the day. Pay attention and jot these things down so that you won’t forget. You may even come up with more scriptures that may come to mind.
