Our kids love it when we take them to the corn maze farm. They love mostly everything about it: the corn maze, gigantic jumping pillow, and hayrides. But, one thing they love in particular which I can’t understand why they love it so much, is the corn pit. It’s a huge pit full of corn seeds that they can jump inside of pretty much like the jumping balls you jump inside of at carnivals. They can play in this area for hours if I’d let them!
One of the times we took them, they came home with piles of dirt on their clothes and bodies and small pieces of corn from the corn pit was everywhere! I thought I’d gotten them all and threw them away. I was adamant about this in case one of my boys decided to become curious to see what it taste like. Even though they are a little older, they still do silly things like this from time to time!
Well, there was one piece that I’d forgotten. After I’d washed all of their clothes from where they’d threw them in the hamper, there was a corn seed right inside of it! I had some damp towels that were in the hamper, too, so I decided to throw them in the wash. Sadly, I’d forgotten them and they were never washed until days later. My husband unwrapped one of the mildew-smelling towels and lo and behold, there was one piece of corn which had sprouted!
At the time he showed me, I was oblivious to the fact that corn could sprout even without being in soil. It was so amazing seeing the little straggling pieces protruding from this little corn seed! Here is where I thought about the scripture where Jesus spoke about seed bearing seed of itself.
This is the kind of God that we serve. A God who is able to produce a substance that is able to produce more substance from inside of itself! Isn’t that amazing? This is how God has created us. We were made from His seed and He designed us with the capability of producing seed through parts of our anatomy!
But, what is important to note is that just as the corn seed needed moisture to grow, our human bodies cannot produce embryo seeds on our own either. So, even though the Lord has placed different giftings, callings, and talents within us, we need His assistance with helping us to grow and develop in them! Otherwise, we wouldn’t know what to do with them. See, there’s a process: one thing coming together with another to bring forth another seed!
Are you looking to the Lord to help you develop in your gifts and talents? Are you giving God the glory for what He is doing in your life?
Prayer: Lord, I thank you for the gifting, calling, and talent you have placed inside of me. I ask that you would help me to grow in them. As you allow me to grow, I pray that you would keep me humble so that I would be willing to give you all of the glory! In Jesus’ name. Amen!
Quiet time meditation: Wait for the Lord to minister to you personally on what He may want to say to you. Be sure to pay attention to any areas that may pop up in your spirit (even silly things such as: how quick you may be to get angry with things or a friend or family member who has been nagging you about their problems.) This process could take anywhere from 10-30 minutes or longer. But, try not to rush this because you could be missing out on a great breakthrough. Within this quiet time, the Lord wants to restore you in any broken areas. He wants to replenish your spirit for what has been used up.
Understanding what He means: This is a time to jot down some of those things the Lord has ministered to you while in meditation. Sometimes, the Lord may wait to speak to you throughout the day. Pay attention and jot these things down so that you won’t forget. You may even come up with more scriptures that may come to mind.
